Johnsonville South African War memorial in its original location on Johnsonville Road. Since this image was taken in c.1985 the memorial has been moved to its current location on Moorefield Road.

One image shows a close-up of the makers' mark on the cast iron lamp standard. E.W. Mills were iron founders with offices in Lambton Quay and a foundry on the waterfront about where Shed 13 now stands. The company merged with Briscoes and became one of Wellington's largest importers and merchants in the early 20th century.
