Specialist units performed a variety of tasks in support of the main combat arms of infantry, artillery, and mounted rifles.
Some, such as the machine gunners and the Imperial Camel Corps, worked alongside these arms during military operations. Others, such as the engineers and the signallers, supported the combat units by maintaining transport links and communications.
