Two pencil portraits of Te Kooti that were apparently drawn in 1887. According to the caption he was ‘addressing Rotorua natives at Tama te Kapua’ marae.
Following his official pardon by the government in 1883 Te Kooti settled at Ōtewa, near Ōtorohanga. After establishing a religious community he began a series of journeys to visit his followers and make peace with his enemies.
