Pubs were at the centre of communtiy life on the West Coast. This image shows a crowd outside Revington's Hotel in Greymouth around the turn of the 20th century. The hotel is decorated with banners that read 'V.R.' (Victoria Regina) and 'Cead Mille Failthe' (100,000 welcomes). The photograph was probably taken during Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee in 1897.
