Ihaia Taueki?

Nga Tohu

In 1840 more than 500 chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand’s founding document. Ngā Tohu, when complete, will contain a biographical sketch of each signatory.

Taueki has been described as an ariki of Muaūpoko. His parents were Tapuwae and Kuraituhi. He is said to have been ‘physically strong and imposing in appearance’ and ‘a peaceful, politic man’. He and Muaupoko more generally are associated with the lands in and around Lake Horowhenua, including the fortified pā, Raia Te Karaka.

Would have been Taueki himself I think who signed probably not Ihaia but I could be wrong.

The Iwi is Muaūpoko and the hapū is Ngati Tamarangi - not Ngāti Apa. It is also more probable that the rangatira - Taueki - signed Te Tiriti. Ihaia Taueki could have signed it, but it was more likely to be his father, Taueki.
