Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Adelaide Eliza Hicks was born in 1869 in New Zealand – the daughter of Henry Hicks and, a farmer, Adelaide Martens. (See 86 Adelaide Hicks)

Her father died in 1884 as the result of an accident and when Adelaide signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Factory Rd, Mosgiel.

Adelaide died at her home on 2 November 1903 - she is presumably buried in the family grave in the East Taieri Cemetery although this is not shown in the cemetery records.

I was raised in Mosgiel by my grandmother Annie Helena Hicks and regularly visited East Taieri Cemetery with her to lay Bells of Ireland flowers (her favourite ) at the grave of Adelaide Henry and now another of their daughters Edith Rachel Hutton Hicks,,
who share an East Taieri grave
Never did I hear of a sister Adelaide Eliza and was never taken to a grave of anyone of that name.
I was raised around H.James Hicks, Edith, Margaret, all other children of and never ever head this person discussed
