hornby

This western industrial Christchurch suburb began as a village where the railways to Southbridge and Little River left the main line.

Meaning of place name
Named by F.W. Delamain after one of the Hornbys in England, reportedly the village in Lancashire. Another potential origin, however, is with Admiral Hornby, who visited Christchurch in 1870 as leader of the British Flying Squadron.
