Farming locality on the east of the Tarras Creek, a minor feeder of the Lindis River, 30km south-east of Wanaka.

Meaning of place name
After Tarras Water in the county of Dumfries, Scotland, and was named by an early runholder, either Robert Wilkin or 'Big' John McLean, but perhaps the surveyor J.T. Thomson, since it appears on his 1857-58 map as Tarras Creek.
