waipiata

Farming locality near the north bank of a loop in the Taieri River, 10km south-east of Ranfurly.

Meaning of place name
Wai: water; piata: glistening or clear. When a railway siding was located here it was intended to call it Komako (a variant of korimako): bellbird, but local residents petitioned the government to have it changed to Waipiata, evidently preferring clear water to bellbirds
