Base Records building plan

The Defence Department built the Base Records building behind Parliament in early 1916 to house the ever-expanding administrative centre. All NZEF personnel files were stored here, and correspondence with relatives was carried out. Male managers and clerks occupied the ground floor, while the female ‘typistes’ and volunteers worked on the first floor – the ceiling of which was a foot lower.
