The first Awakeri hall, opened on 13 December 1921, was a modest structure with corrugated iron exterior walls. A new and much larger war memorial hall was built alongside after the Second World War. This was opened with a grand ball and dedication ceremony on 19 September 1955.
The carved wooden roll of honour inside lists the names of six local men who made the supreme sacrifice in the First World War and another six names from the Second World War.
