Founded in Wolverhampton England in 1781, Briscoes was an International company at the start of the First World War with branches in London, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill. They traded mainly in building supplies, and also organised contractors and tradesmen such as Ironmongers, Fitters, Tile layers, Steel ceiling fixer, Roof Tiler, Carpenter, Hardware assistant, Shipping clerk and Warehouse-man among others.
