This cartoon shows flustered Coalition leaders George Forbes and Gordon Coates struggling to deal with the Depression in 1933.

By that time the Depression was entering its fourth year, and many New Zealanders were disillusioned with the government's response. The New Zealand Legion was a manifestation of that dissatisfaction.
