The Howick War Memorial Community Centre was opened on 24 April 1957. The circular brick building in Picton Street, which was a scaled-down version of a much grander scheme originally proposed in the early 1950s, incorporated Plunket rooms, rest rooms, a Council committee room, and the municipal library. A polished marble slab at the entrance bears the inscription: “1914-1919 / In gratitude to those who served / In sympathy with those who suffered / In loving remembrance of those / who gave their lives / 1939 – 1945”.

The library moved out in 1975 but the building still serves as an information centre today.

The names of the district’s fallen from both world wars are inscribed on the Howick and Pakuranga First World War memorial obelisk on Stockade Hill.
