This Mah Jong set and box was hand-crafted by Japanese prisoners of war at the Featherston POW camp during the Second World War. It was given to Jack Rapson, who served as a guard at the camp.

Jack Rapson is my grandfather. Although he passed away some years ago now, and never spoke of his time in the service, he was a quiet strong family man who did his duty and then did his best leave things in the past. He was an amazing man and I still miss him.
