Normanby War Memorial Hall

The Normanby War Memorial Town Hall was opened on 11 December 1954. It replaced the town’s first town hall, which had burnt down in 1950.

The memorial town hall burnt down in turn in August 2008. Its replacement, the Normanby War Memorial Recreation Centre, was opened by Whanganui MP Chester Borrows on 5 December 2009. The commemorative plaque from the memorial hall was restored and set into an external wall of the new building. It reads: NORMANBY & DISTRICT / WAR MEMORIAL / TOWN HALL / ERECTED IN HONOUR / OF THOSE WHO SERVED / IN THE WORLD WARS / 1914–18, 1939-45.
