Te Puna war memorial hall was opened on 26 December 1922. The marble memorial tablet unveiled during the opening ceremony listed the names of 14 local men who had died on active service. Another tablet was placed in the hall in 1936 with the names of 26 men who had also served.

On 30 April 1947 a third tablet was unveiled in memory of eight local men who had died during the Second World War. Another tablet with 28 names was added in 1950 in honour of those who had also served.

The hall today sits on a busy intersection of SH2 (Tauranga West Road) and Te Puna Road. Plans are underway either to move it or to demolish it and replace it on a more accessible site.
