The Waihi Methodist Church’s First World War roll of honour was unveiled on 1 June 1919 (‘Roll of Honour: Unveiling at Methodist Church’, Waihi Daily Telegraph, 2/6/1919, p. 2; ‘Roll of Honour Unveiled’, NZ Herald, 3/6/1919, p. 6).
The roll of honour had been painted and hand-lettered by a local artist and battery-hand, Bramley James Radford. It combined a display of the flags of the Allied nations with scenes from the battles of Jutland in May 1916 and Gaba Tepe (Galllipoli) in May 1915. It listed the names of six men who had fallen and 22 who had also served. After the church was closed in the 1990s, the roll of honour was lost to view for some years, before being found in storage at the Waihi Beach RSA. It was donated to Waihi Arts Centre & Museum in 2015.
