The Whangarata First World War memorial was unveiled in the Whangarata School grounds on 15 September 1924. The granite obelisk was inscribed with a roll of honour of 55 names, including the names of 14 fallen. The Whangarata School was closed in 1968. After standing vacant for some years the buildings were first used as a school camp and later as a community facility.
The Whangarata Second World War roll of honour, which formerly hung in the school building, has in recent years been transferred to the Tūākau War Memorial Hall. This lists 19 names (one man, H.V. Medland, was killed in action).
