Robina Matilda Jane Fulton, known as Jane, was born on 27 November 1855 in Calton, Lanarkshire, Scotland – the daughter of Robert Fulton and Elizabeth Bowman.
She arrived in New Zealand about 1862 and married William Abel, a clerk, in 1875.
They had three sons and when Jane signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Cutten St, Caversham, Dunedin.
William died in 1909 and Jane died on 17 January 1933, they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
