Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Hannah Jane Day was born in 1852 in London – the daughter of Charles William Day, a general dealer, and Jane Thompson.
She married James Scott Archer, a clerk, in 1877 and soon after they emigrated to Otago.
They settled in Dunedin where they had six sons, two who died in infancy.
When Hannah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in High Street, Roslyn, Dunedin.
James died around this time, in 1893, and Hannah died on 5 February 1917 – they are buried with their two young sons in the Northern Cemetery.
