Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Annie Elizabeth Blumfield was born in 1850 in Berkshire, England – the daughter of William Blumfield, a tailor, and Sarah Clark.

She married Joseph Baker, a widower with two sons, in 1880 in London and shortly after they emigrated to New Zealand.

They spent a short time in Dunedin before moving to Gore where Joseph worked as a watchmaker.

Joseph died in 1899 – he is buried in the Gore Cemetery.

After Joseph’s death Annie travelled to London, probably to visit family.

By 1923, when Annie made her will, she was living in Timaru.

She died at Ross Home in Dunedin on 14 September 1933 and is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
