Daughter to Sarah Ann Couper.

Jane Hallett Beckett nee Couper was born in 1867 in Napier to Sarah Ann and William Couper.

By 1881, she was attending school in Frasertown. In 1886, Jane married William Beckett and their elder children Ethel, Ellen, Ivy and William were born in quick succession.

Jane signed the Petition at Frasertown and was on the 1893 and 1896 Electoral Rolls. Her mother Sarah, sisters Kitty Maney and Louisa Couper, and sister-in-law Emily Couper also signed. Two of her husband’s sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Beckett and Eugenie Beckett also signed Sheet 305.

Her son, Cyril was born in Wairoa in 1894 (and was killed in WW1), Lilian was born in 1896 and Daphne Agnes in 1898.

Jane Hallett Beckett died in 1901 aged 34 years and was buried with her father in the Frasertown Cemetery.
