Ann BISHOP formerly ARNOLD nee CASHMORE b. 9 Dec 1832 Hartshill, Warwickshire. m. (1) 11 Jun 1856 Wm ARNOLD killed in cart accident aged almost 40 on 12 Sep 1873. 8 children m.(2) in Birmingham 8 Aug 1875 William Henry BISHOP wheelwright b. 1852 in Sapcote d. 1925 Hokitika remarried 1894 with 4 dau. A colourful Micawber-like man. Ann was a pious Primitive Methodist. Note age gap. No more children. Emig. on the Mataura arr. Napier 9 Nov. 1877. Later lived in Clive, Waipawa, Bulls, Feilding, Petone finally Campbelltown (Rongotea) from early 1890. Ann's eldest Sarah Maria 1857-1920 had married Bulls blacksmith John GLOVER 1858-1943 in 1880 who moved there at the same time. Ann was a handsome woman, seemingly with a large 'port wine stain' on her face. She was illiterate. Her soon-to-be daughter in law Clara Eliza LANGLEY ca 1867-46 (m. William John ARNOLD 1861-1941) was also in Campbelltown at petition time; as was daughter Emma PARRANT. Clara wrote Ann's name which was duly signed "X". Ann died on Boxing Day 1893 and was accorded a very large funeral. Her husband probably built the famously ornate hearse. Ann's sisters Emma (HARRIS) and Elizabeth (WILKINSON) and her sawmiller brother Robert also came to NZ.
