Alison Hamilton was born in Scotland about 1835, she married Duncan McIntyre Cameron in 1859 in Victoria, Australia.

They had two daughters before they sailed for Otago in 1863 on the Red Jacket.

A further three children were born after their arrival in New Zealand.

When Alison signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Clyde St, Dunedin.

Duncan died in 1902 and Alison died on 23 August 1909. She is buried with Duncan in the Southern Cemetery.
