Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Verona Huntly Frier was born in 1857 in Victoria, Australia – daughter of George Frier, a hotelkeeper, and Margaret Hogg.

Verona’s family came to New Zealand about 1864. They first lived in Dunedin then 'about 1869’ they shifted to Mosgiel where Verona’s father ran a hotel.

Her father died in 1872 and the next year Verona’s mother married Jonathon Snow, a widower who worked as a pound-keeper.

On 30 November 1883, at her mother’s house, Verona married William Collie, a bootmaker. They had one son and lived in the Musselburgh and Sth Dunedin areas.

William died in 1934 and Verona died on 26 June 1942. They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
