Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Margaret McMillan was born about 1841 in Ireland.
She had a daughter in Glasgow in 1866 (See 90 Mrs Barron) before she married John Ewing in 1869.
Margaret and John had five children, two who appear to have died in infancy, before they emigrated to Otago in 1880 on the Canterbury.
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Walker St – Margaret was working as a bag manufacturer and John was a grocer.
John died in 1905 and Margaret died at her daughter’s home on 3 May 1908.
They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
Margaret’s sister (See 90 Mrs Thompson) also signed the petition.
