Margaret was born in St Heliers, Jersey, in the Channel Islands around 1839. She married William Thomas Jewett, a shoemaker from Canada.
They had six children in Jersey before the family emigrated to Otago from London in 1874 on the Carnatic.
When Margaret signed the 1893 suffrage petition the family were living in Hanover St, Dunedin. Her daughters Rosa and Annie also signed.
William died in 1905 and Margaret died on 8 March 1917. They are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
