Elizabeth Mary Lawrie was born in 1869 in New Zealand, the daughter of James Lawrie, a blacksmith, and Rosina Vance.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition she was living in Castle St, Dunedin with her widowed mother and working as a dressmaker. Her mother also signed the petition.
Elizabeth married George Alexander Martin, a tailor, in 1902. They had two children, one dying in infancy.
Elizabeth died in Dunedin on 25 October 1955. George died in 1961. They were both cremated.
