Mary Caroline Staurenghi was born in 1837 in St Bride’s, Monmouthshire, Wales – the daughter of Alexander Staurenghi, a publican from Italy, & Mary Burfield.
Mary married Joseph Austin Lima/Lyma, a labourer, in 1868 & soon after they emigrated to New Zealand.
They had 5 children & when Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Hanover St, Dunedin.
Austin died in Auckland in 1900, he is buried in the Pukerimu Lawn Cemetery in Paeroa.
Mary died on September 6th 1921 in Wellington, she is buried in the Karori Cemetery.
