Originally transcribed as 13 Mrs Osborne
Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Emma Susannah Catharine Shorten was born about 1855 in England.
She married Ephraim Osborne, a bootmaker, in London in 1873 – they had a daughter before they emigrated to Otago the following year of the Christian McAusland.
Their daughter died on the voyage of whooping cough and another child was born prematurely and appears to also have died.
Emma and Ephraim settled in Dunedin and had a further nine children.
When Emma signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Macandrew Rd, South Dunedin.
Ephraim served a term as Mayor of South Dunedin, he died at their home in 1916 and Emma died on 23 July 1934.
They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
