Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Ewen Dall was born about 1842 – the daughter of Thomas Dall and Ann Robertson.
Her father was the manager of a factory manufacturing navy canvas and family lived, for a time, in France where Ewen may have been born.
They sailed for Otago in 1852 on the Slains Castle and settled in South Otago where Ewen’s father took up farming.
She married Martin Rea, a farmer, in 1870 and they had four children.
When Ewen signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Wairuna in South Otago.
In 1902 Martin left for an eight month trip to the 'home country'. He died of heart failure on a railway platform in London while on his way home to New Zealand and was buried in Ireland.
Ewen died on 9 April 1906, she is buried in the Clinton Cemetery, South Otago.
