Harriet Arnold was born about 1833; according to her cemetery record she was born in France.
She married William Routledge, a machinist, in Victoria, Australia in 1861 - they had five children in Victoria, one dying in infancy before they came to New Zealand about 1878. Their daughter Mary also signed the 1893 suffrage petition.
The family lived in Fox St, South Dunedin where William died in 1896. Harriet moved to Melbourne St where she died on 5 March 1912.
They are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
