Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Ann Duke Hansford Stone was born in 1856 in Portland, Dorset, England – the daughter of Robert Stone, a carpenter, and Charlotte Duke Hansford.

Her father died in 1860 and, in 1865, her mother also died. What happened to Annie after her mother died is unclear, at some stage she emigrated to New Zealand with her sister Sarah (See 79 Sarah Morrow).

Annie married David Scurr, a gold miner, in 1874 and they had 14 children, one who died in infancy.

The family lived at Cardrona where Annie signed the suffrage petition.

In 1909 Sarah and David went to live with a son in Wellington.

Annie died there on 19 April 1916 and David died in 1921, they are buried together in the Karori Cemetery.
