Edith Maude Townsend was born in 1864 in New Zealand – although her death record gives her the birth date of about 1873.
She was the daughter of Charles Townsend and Elizabeth Georgina. (See 341 E G Townsend)
When Edith signed the suffrage petition she was living with her mother and sister in Bluff working as a school teacher.
She was living in Timaru in 1925 – in 1926 Edith left New Zealand on a visit to England.
She died in New Brighton on 23 June 1927.
