Harry Holland's sedition charge

Police report dated 15 November 1913 on the prosecution of Harry Holland for sedition. Holland, then the editor of the Maoriland Worker, was to lead the Labour Party from 1919 until his death in 1933.

Accused of using inflammatory language during the 1913 strike, Holland was found guilty of sedition and sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment but released after serving 3½ months. He immediately returned to editing the Maoriland Worker and campaigning for socialism.
