Memorial plaque and reserve dedicated to Victoria Cross recipient Cyril Bassett at Stanley Point, Devonport. Bassett was the only member of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force to be awarded a VC during the Gallipoli Campaign.
Devonport resident and navy veteran Fred Wilson remembers that Bassett 'lived a few doors away from us. When we were kids, we used to go to his place and plead to see his VC, and he'd get it out and show it to us'.
