The inter-island ferry Maori (3399 tons) is pictured soon after its entry into service in 1907. The first ship to be purpose-built for use on the Lyttelton–Wellington route, the Maori was named after one of the vessels in the Union Steam Ship Company's founding fleet of 1875.
