Ada Gowdy was born about 1875 in New Zealand – the daughter of Edwin Williamson Gowdy, a seaman, and Ann Jane Ross.
When she signed the suffrage petition Ada was living in Owaka.
She married Andrew Anthony Patterson, a farmer, on 3 April 1896 in Dunedin and they had, at least, two children.
They lived in Hakateramea, Milburn and Allanton where Ada died on 25 May 1931.
Andrew moved to Dunedin where he died in 1938, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
