Ada Sophia Ross was born on 26 September 1868 in Greenwich, Kent, the daughter of William Ross, a draper’s assistant, and Mary Ann Bretton.
When she signed the suffrage petition, Ada was living with her family in Clarendon St, Dunedin and working as a tailoress. Ada's mother Mary, who lived at the same address, also signed the petition.
Ada did not marry. She died at the family home in Stafford Avenue, Dunedin on 20 November 1926. She is buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery, Dunedin.
