Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Adeline Julier was born on 2 June 1866 at Deborah Bay, Port Chalmers – the daughter of William Julier, a mariner, and Mary Ann Paice.

Adeline was a Captain in the Salvation Army and when she signed the suffrage petition she was stationed at Milton in South Otago.

In 1893 she was transferred to Otepopo and in 1896 she was living in Dunedin.

Adeline appears to have had mental health problems – she was admitted to Seacliff Hospital in the early 1900s.

Adeline died on 21 July 1945 at Tokanui Hospital near Te Awamutu and is buried in the Tokanui Hospital Cemetery.
