Agnes Gibson was born about 1850 in Glasgow, Scotland.

She married Gilbert Gillies, a boilermaker, on 28 August 1868 in Glasgow. They had two children before they emigrated to New Zealand about 1873.

The family settled in Ravensbourne near Dunedin and had a further nine children.

Agnes died on 10 January 1898, aged 48 – her youngest child was seven years old.

Gilbert died in 1901, as the result of an accident. Agnes and Gilbert are buried together in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.
