Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Agnes Robertson was born about 1838 in Haddingtonshire, Scotland – the daughter of Thomas Robertson, a mason, and Janet Peat.

Her mother died in the early 1840’s and her father remarried in 1842.

In 1847 the family boarded the Philip Laing bound for Otago and they settled at Andersons Bay, near Dunedin.

She married Thomas Harrison on 17 April 1856 and they had, at least, one child.

When Agnes signed the suffrage petition they were living in Union St, Dunedin and Thomas gave his occupation as “fern collector”.

Thomas died at their home in 1912 and Agnes died on 25 July 1920 – they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
