Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Agnes Hislop was born on 23 July 1848 in Peebleshire, Scotland – the daughter of William Hislop, a shepherd, and Margaret Anderson.

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1858 on the Jura – they stayed for a short time at Caversham before moving to the Tokomairiro district where they 'took up' land at Moneymore known as 'Cringletree Farm'.

When Agnes signed the suffrage petition she was living in, nearby, Milton working as a dressmaker.

She died on 31 January 1933 at her sister’s (See 92 Mrs A Lowery) home in Milton and is buried with her parents in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
