Agnes Reid was born about 1856, she married Alexander Kirkwood, a gold miner, in 1873. They had 11 children, one dying in infancy.

In 1881 a concert and dance for the benefit of the Tuapeka Hospital was held in the Waipori schoolroom, and one of those singing was Mrs Kirkwood.

The family lived at Waipori until Agnes moved to Dunedin with her young children in about 1892. In 1902 Alexander was declared bankrupt.

Agnes died suddenly on 30 January 1906 at Dunedin Hospital, and she is buried in the Southern Cemetery.

Alexander died in 1910 at Waipori, he is buried in the Waipori Cemetery.
