Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Agnes Ledingham was born on 9 May 1868 at Kirkhill, East Clutha – the eldest daughter of Alexander Ledingham, a farmer, and Agnes Colvin.

Her mother died in 1887 leaving eight children and Agnes must have taken over the running of the house at this time.

Agnes’ father died in 1906 and she married in Dunedin on 10 June 1914 to John Rhodes, a farmer and widower with five children.

They lived at Castlecliff near Whanganui where John died in 1924.

Agnes died on 12 March 1936 in Palmerston North – they are buried together in the Mount View Cemetery, Marton.
