Biographical information provided by Ken Miller for the He Tohu exhibition:

Amy Letitia Aldis was born in 1868 in Cambridgeshire, England and was the youngest of the three children of Professor William Aldis and his wife Mary. The family moved to Auckland in the 1880s but returned to England some time before 1901. Amy was interested in global politics and wrote many letters to New Zealand newspapers even after she returned to England. The topics ranged from the situation in Russia in 1893 and appeals for New Zealand to help South African refugees in 1900 and Czech refugees in 1938. Amy never married or had children and she died in 1947.
