Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Amy Matilda Watkins was born in 1862 in Bristol, England – the daughter of William Watkins, a coachbuilder, and Matilda Grundy. Amy's sister, Fany (Fanny) Watkins also signed the petition.

She came to New Zealand with her family about 1872.

Amy married Henry Reid Bell, a saddler and harness maker, in 1901. They had no children.

Amy died at her mother’s residence, Reid Rd, Dunedin, on 9 December 1913. Henry died at Clinton in 1917.

They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
