Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Ann McMurray was born on 30 September 1868 in Glasgow, Scotland, daughter of Alexander McMurray, a brassmoulder & Mary Ann Wilkie.

In 1875 Ann, along with her parents and siblings arrived in Dunedin on the Aldergrove. Another five children were born in New Zealand.

On 25 December 1888, at the residence of the bride’s parents Caversham Rise, Ann married William Connor, a blacksmith from Scotland, who came to Otago in 1883 on the Caroline.

Ann and William had eight children and, in 1893, were living at Bradshaw St, later shifting to Oxford St where William died in 1922. Ann died on 18 February 1930 at Trafalgar St, Sth Dunedin.

They are buried in the Southern Cemetery beside Ann’s parents.
