Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Annie Maria Lyons Barnett was born about 1860 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of George Barnett and Marianne Lyons.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1862 on the Aldinga.
They travelled from Dunedin to Kingston by waggon then up the lake to Queenstown by a 'small open boat'.
Annie married Robert Patton Anderson, a miner, on 20 December 1878 at Arrowtown and they had 13 children, three who appear to have died in infancy.
The family lived in Bendigo before moving to Cardrona where Annie signed the suffrage petition.
In the early 1900s they moved to Queenstown then to Christchurch in 1924.
Annie died at her home on 15 November 1935 and Robert died the following year, they are buried together in the Sydenham Cemetery.
